"Like many young lads, I made my first knife in 1960 when I was about 14. It was pretty crude, certainly not an item that anyone would want to buy. For the next 30 years, I never believed I could be a knifemaker until one day I met Ed Storch at a gun show in Edmonton, Alberta. Ed gave lessons in knife making and within a few short weeks, I became a student. I made my first real knife at Ed's rural workshop out at Mannville, Alberta. It was a beauty and rivaled any factory knife on the market. Over the next few years many more knives were made at Ed's shop. During this time, I was fortunate to attend a number of symposiums and able to learn from the likes of Brian Lyttle, Greg Lightfoot, Cal Gangshorn , Wolfgang Loerchner, Randal Graham, Jim Quickfall , Thomas Haslinger and Sam Bull.
Over the years, I have made all kinds of knives, however at the present time I am only making custom knives i.e. fillet knives (hidden tang) with ATS-34 blades and hunting or skinning knives (full tang or hidden tang) with Damascus blades. Handles are made from stabilized maple, micarta or natural materials such as caribou antler, horn (muskox and buffalo), bone, oosik and ivory. Stainless steel is used for the bolsters, guards and butt caps. Each knife is unique (one of a kind) and comes with its own custom made hand sewn waterproof sheaf. Everything is made from raw stock and hand worked (no pre-made parts for my knives). As stated my knives are primarily working knives, built to withstand the most strenuous adventure however, they make a beautiful addition to any knife collection."
