Handcrafting knives for over 15 years, Swiss born and tri-lingual Christoph Deringer is a Founding Member of the Canadian Knifemakers Guild (CKG) and a Voting Member the American Bladesmith Society (ABS). In 1994, Christoph was the first ever recipient of the George Peck Memorial Award for the best knife by a Journeyman Smith, and in 1996, was recognised as a Master Smith by the ABS. In 2006, his chef’s knife won the “Best Culinary Implement” award at the Napa Show.

Christoph is gaining international recognition for his integral knives. An integral knife consists of solid piece of steel hand forged to form the blade, bolster/guard, handle and butt cap. He is distinguished by his technique in that he does not use any power tools in the forging process, and does all file work and embellishment also by hand. Artistically, Christoph aims for three aesthetic elements: elegance, structural integrity, and balance.

Christoph’s typical show calendar includes the CKG Toronto Show, the ABS Reno Show, and the Blade Show in Atlanta. He also participates in, and demonstrates at, ABS sponsored “Hammer-Ins” throughout the eastern USA, in addition to yearly attendance at Les Forges de la Salamandre in Trois-Riviere, Quebec.
